The old rule still applies. During the time that's designated as theirs, together, there are to be no work-related distractions.

Which means he's silenced his inbound messages for anything that isn't emergency-priority. Everything else will just have to wait a while.



Simon settles on the couch next to Kaylee, and holds out a mug of homemade cocoa. "So. How's my first attempt?"

Lazy grin. "Yeah, but if we do, I'm gonna rope you into pickin' out stuff for the house."

He ponders that for a moment.

"What kind of stuff?"

[gonna_live]

"Curtains."

[simon_doctor]

"Picking out curtains," he repeats, a little dreamily. "Very domestic."

[gonna_live]

"And boring as hell," Kaylee agrees.

[simon_doctor]

"That too."

He shifts a little closer to lean his shoulder against hers. "We could be really unadventurous and watch a vid."

[gonna_live]

She laughs. "What, like we've done for the last... however long we've been doin' this?"

[simon_doctor]

He grins. "Being homebodies, I think you called it."

[gonna_live]

"Did you expect that to change right off?" Kaylee tilts her head.

[simon_doctor]

"No," he says, "and I think I'm okay with it."

A beat. "Though we should do something special every now and then."

[gonna_live]

"Oh, we're doin' something special," Kaylee says -- a little ominously. "What's the fun of bein' young and fabulous if you don't ever get to go out and show off your pretty husband?"

[simon_doctor]

Simon pauses with his mug at his lips, and raises his eyebrows at her.

"What did you have in mind?"

[gonna_live]

"I know better than to say dancing," she says, wry. "But I'm gonna do some research."

[simon_doctor]

"We could do that together," he suggests, and drinks. "Find out what there is to do around town that we might both like."

[gonna_live]

"Another list." With some satisfaction. "I like makin' lists."

[simon_doctor]

"How many have you got now?"

Beat.

"Or is that going to lead to making a list of lists?"

[gonna_live]

Kaylee takes another sip of cocoa. "I'm not that bad off."

[simon_doctor]

He tips his head to her in acknowledgment.

"So," after a beat. "Any other thoughts for what to do today?"

[gonna_live]

"Let's be boring." She settles her head against his shoulder. "Unless you got another suggestion."

[simon_doctor]

He rests his head comfortably against hers. "Boring sounds perfect."

[gonna_live]

"And if I fall asleep, you're gonna wake me up, right?"

[simon_doctor]

"Absolutely."

Beat. "Do you think you're likely to?"

[gonna_live]

Ominous: "Maybe."

[simon_doctor]

He chuckles.

"Will it help you stay awake if you get to pick what we watch?"

[gonna_live]

"Maybe, but you're not gonna like it," she says, cheerful.
