"As working vacations go," he says as he closes the aircar door behind him, "that went pretty well, I thought."

His suitcases are in the back; his flight departs in three hours, giving them plenty of time to get to the spaceport.

She squeezes his hand and lets go. "Shi a."

He squeezes back, and lets go at the same time.

"Love you, ai ren."

A beat.

She moves in, slipping her arms around him.

[simon_doctor]

He wraps his arms around her in turn, rests his head against hers.

After a beat, he turns his head and kisses her temple, lightly.

[gonna_live]

He's going away again. It'll make things easier. She can have a little break.

But this --





She doesn't hate her life the way it is. She doesn't hate this. And she doesn't hate him.

"Is there anything out there that you got to have before morning?"

[simon_doctor]

Half a beat.

"...I don't think so."

[gonna_live]

"Then maybe I'll wait. And come with you now."

[simon_doctor]

He looks down into her face, with a very small smile.

"I'd like that."

[gonna_live]

She stretches up a little -- just enough to kiss him lightly.

"Then let's go."

[simon_doctor]

He lets go with one arm, but keeps the other one around her as they start up the stairs.
