They came to an agreement early on: since Kaylee's much busier than Simon right now, even if he helps, and since Simon will be much busier after they've moved, it only makes sense for him to do the bulk of their packing now and for her to do the bulk of the unpacking later.

This means careful documenting and labeling, while he's putting things into boxes; it'll save a lot of trouble in the unpacking, since he might not be there to remember where he put what. In short: making lists.

He's a bit confused by the pair of unfamiliar books he's just come across, though.

"'S got to be the first time since I known you that you didn't."

And now he's laughing too, quietly.

"C'mon." She grins up at him. "Take it off. And come back here to me."

"Just be a moment," he murmurs, a little sheepishly, and sits up.

Unfastens his shoes, and lines them up at the edge of the bed.

And sighs, and hauls himself to his feet, and starts taking off the rest of his clothes.

From behind him comes a low whistle.

"I just don't want to sleep in my clothes," he says, half laughing, half defensive.

Kaylee shifts up, leaning on her elbow. "Honey, that wasn't any kind of complaint."

"Oh, good." Wry.

He finishes folding his shirt, and sets it on the chair; his pants are already draped neatly over its back.

Kaylee is beaming at him. "We'll work some on your presentation, but that was pretty good." Encouraging.

Simon starts to laugh again, helplessly.

"What?" Kaylee's starting to giggle.

"Presentation?" he asks, moving back towards the bed.

"It'd go over better with music." She shifts over, making room.

He slides in next to her. "I'm sure it would."

"And you could shake your hips some." With a grin.

He's laughing again, the fingers of one hand pressed to his forehead.

"No," he says, "no, this is not going to work, you'll never get any sleep at this rate."

"I thought I was bein' helpful," Kaylee protests. "Don't you want some nice constructive criticism?"

"Not on taking my clothes off," he says, nestling closer to her.

She slips an arm around him. "Reckon I'll just have to be content with my real raunchy mental images that I'm absolutely not gonna share on account of you'd blush for the rest of your life."

A last little whisper of laughter. "Xiexie ni."

He brushes her cheek lightly with the back of two fingers, and then leans in to kiss her mouth lightly.

"Mm." Happily. "Just so long as you know they exist."

"Shh," he says firmly, and kisses her eyes closed.

Kaylee laughs, but doesn't say anything else.

She does doze off relatively quickly.

He's awake a little while longer. Or half-awake; drifting.

His last distant thought as he falls asleep is about asking Kaylee, sometime in the next few weeks, if she'd like to get a string or two of lights for the new house. Once they've moved in.

It won't be much longer now.
