Sep. 18th, 2005 03:30 amIt's a kind of homesickness so basic he would never have noticed it was there, if they hadn't come here.
Missing the people he knew, of course; missing the little luxuries he'd always taken for granted, yes; missing his work at the hospital, absolutely, and the trip to Ariel had brought that rather sharply to mind. But it hasn't occurred to him before this just how much he's missed the ... well, the scenery.
The skyline outside his window isn't even Capital City on Osiris, and he still finds his eyes being drawn toward it like a tongue to an aching tooth, opening of their own accord when he tries to sleep. His mind insists that the blocky red triad of the Isis complex should be visible a few blocks to the south of the Tallis Building, and beyond that the illuminated dome at the top of the Seanet Tower, and beyond that --
With a sigh, Simon sits up in bed and sets his back to the wall, facing the window. And for a few minutes he just sits there, folded arms resting on his drawn-up knees, watching the late-night air traffic flow by.
