A day passes quietly, and gradually Kaylee starts to spend more time awake than asleep.

They play cards. He reads to her, several chapters at a time. They spend nearly three hours going through the music library, playing aloud anything that catches their interest.

Taking a shower proves difficult, but no more so than expected; they'd had the foresight to arrange for a chair.

On Osiris, a day or so post-operation

River's all right, and so's the rest of the crew. And it's a brisk bright afternoon in the heart of the city, glass and silver towers throwing the sunlight back at the sky, street and air traffic humming past.

The skimmer's only a block away, and he has time.

You should. If you want.

Not enough time to visit the nearby Museum of the Exodus, and that's something he'd rather do in company anyway -- briefly and wistfully, he imagines how its collection would delight Kaylee. But a walk around Ehrmann Square, to look at the fountains ... and maybe buy a cup of coffee from one of the corner kiosks. Just a walk.

You can.

"...handed us each one chocolate, and closed the bag. With this look of we never speak of this."

Simon's sitting cross-legged on the edge of the bed, with Kaylee's feet (in warm fuzzy socks) in his lap.

He's grinning.

"And we drove back to the Abbey in complete silence."
